Description

Rotavac  is a live attenuated Rotavirus 116 E virus vaccine suspended in vero cells.

ROTAVAC is indicated for active immunization of infants from the age of 6 weeks for the prevention of gastroenteritis due to rotavirus infection.

Immunization guideline:

Rotavac should be given in a 3 dose series starting at 6 weeks at 4 week intervals. Rotavac may be given together with the other routine childhood vaccinations i.e. Diptheria, Tetanus and Pertussis [DTwP], Hepatitis B vaccine and Oral Polio Vaccine. All doses of Rotavirus vaccine should be given orally after thawing the frozen vaccine, and should not be injected. Doses should be completed by the age of 8 months (34 weeks). In case, where an incomplete dose is given to the baby (the baby spits or regurgitates most of the vaccine), a single replacement dose should be given at the same visit. Infant can be breastfed or given liquids before or after the vaccination.

Contraindications

Do not give subsequent doses of vaccine in cases of hypersensitivity to any component of vaccine observed after vaccination. Individuals with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disease (SCID). Cases of gastroenteritis associated with live attenuated virus have been reported in infants with SCID. History of intussusception (IS) is also a contraindication.
