Poliorix

Description

Poliorix is an injectable vaccine indicated for immunization against  3 types of Polioviruses and protect children from age 2 months onwards against Poliomyelitis.

Immunization Guideline:

Infants should receive at least three doses of IPV at minimum intervals of 4 weeks in the first 6 months of life. IPV can be administered along with the other routine childhood vaccines and also as a combination vaccine. IPV can be given safely and effectively at the same time as measles, mumps, rubella, BCG and yellow fever vaccines and vitamin A supplementation.

 If IPV is started at 6 weeks of age and 3 doses are given at less than 8 weeks interval, a booster dose is recommended at 9 months of age or in 2nd year of life for optimum protection.

PoliorixTM is given as a deep intramuscular injection.  In  infants it is given in anterolateral aspect of the thigh and in older children and adults, it is given in deltoid muscle.
