Doctor had given penta vaccine to my child in 10 week. So, I wanted to know if it is necessary to give rotavirus 2 and pcv2 separately?
Pentavalent vaccine is given to prevent 5 diseases like Diptheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenzae. Its second dose is due in 10th week. PCV is given to prevent diseases spread by pneumocccal bacteria and Rotavirus vaccine drops are used to prevent Rotaviral infections of stomach. All these vaccines are now mandatory vaccines as per UIP. See immunization chart. If you are concerned about giving many vaccines together to your baby and want to space them more, talk to your doctor . He will guide you based on the alternate catch up schedule. Giving many vaccines together is absolutely fine and based on the fact that baby is exposed to many pathogens all the time once it is out of womb. Vaccinating against pathogens early in life give better chance of healthy life to a baby.
